Typing every traveller's passport number and date of birth by hand is slow and error-prone. In Apartop's check-in the guest points the camera at their document and the machine-readable zone (MRZ) data go straight into the form.

What Apartop does for you

Passports, Spanish DNI and ID cards

Reads the machine-readable zone of passports and card-format documents under the ICAO 9303 standard, including the Spanish DNI and the foreigners' TIE card.

Fixes reading errors

Checks the document's check digits and fixes typical letter/number mix-ups, such as O and 0 or B and 8.

Fills in the guest registration

First name, surnames, document type and number, DNI or TIE support number, nationality, date of birth and sex. It warns if the document has expired.

The photo never leaves the phone

Recognition happens in the guest's browser. The image is not sent to any server and Apartop does not store photos of documents.

Frequently asked questions

Does the guest have to install anything?
No. It works in the phone's browser. If the browser does not allow the live camera, they can take a photo with the system camera and it is read just the same.
Is the passport photo stored?
No. The strip is read on the guest's own phone and only the form fields are filled in; the image is neither sent nor stored.
Why don't accents or ñ come through?
The machine-readable zone only uses unaccented letters. Apartop reminds the guest to add them if needed.
